Director Sriram Raghavan’s “Merry Christmas” successfully crafts a suspenseful whodunit starring Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif. Known for his excellent technique, Raghavan creates a thriller that is not like any other.
Merry Christmas features highs and lows as well as intense feelings from each of the actors. Actors such as Ashwini Kalsekar, Sanjay Kapoor, and Tinnu Anand have given excellent performances in their roles. Throughout Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupari’s excellent character performances, they all served as the foundation.
The story
Merry Christmas centres on two characters, Maria (Katrina Kaif) and Albert (Vijay Sethupathi), and it then takes the audience on a unique journey with them. On Christmas Eve, the two strangers cross paths in the hopes that their encounter will magically blossom into romance. But the real action starts as the couple’s dreamy night turns into a nightmare and secrets are revealed.
Five years after directing his last film, Andhadhun, writer-director Sriram Raghavan once again gives a breathtaking demonstration of what great writing looks like. Merry Christmas, his most recent film, is more than just the odd combination of Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif, two very different performers. The movie defies expectations, exploring unexplored ground and engrossing you in a world of death, evil, and deceit.
What aspects of the movie work?
The best thing about this Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi film is how little was revealed about the plot of Merry Christmas in the trailer, songs, and other promotional media that were released before the film’s premiere. What you are going to see is not something you are prepared for. Since Sriram Raghavan is renowned for his ability to build tension in his narratives, Merry Christmas is another compelling film that will keep you guessing right up to the very end. Raghavan uses music extensively in his films, and Pritam has done a fantastic job of capturing the spirit of the director. The narrative gradually quickens, and the second part of the movie is worth seeing through.
Vijay Sethupathi has once again given a fantastic performance. Even though he plays a very intimidating persona, there are times when he jokes subtly. Despite rolling your eyes at the jokes, you can’t help but laugh. The fantastic script deserves some recognition as well. It’s a pleasure to watch Katrina Kaif on film, and her performance is commendable.
What didn’t work?
Despite being a fantastic film, Merry Christmas lacks the charm of Sriram Raghavan’s earlier works. You may go into the movie with some expectations since you know what the director is capable of, but you could be a little let down by the film’s fundamental plot. Merry Christmas may seem like a movie with a lot of obvious and predictable turns to those who enjoy suspense thrillers, but it has its moments where you might think it gets better from here.
Merry Christmas – Is it worth watching?
With its flawless storyline and dialogue, “Merry Christmas” offers an amazing movie experience.
You’ll be captivated by the film from beginning to end, thanks to its compelling twists and turns and exciting scenes. The story is made more complex by the amazing performance and chemistry between Vijay and Katrina.
When you believe the film is over, a brilliant conclusion that perfectly captures the essence of Sriram Raghvan’s famous line, “picture abhi baaki hai mere dost,” astounds you. The attraction is further enhanced by the addition of clever jokes and an engrossing background tune.
Unquestionably a masterpiece that is a must-watch, “Merry Christmas” deserves an A+.
