A Liverpool-based Indian housewife prepared to do everything it takes to save her husband, who was found guilty of murder and given a life sentence. In the film Savi, the plot centres on her attempts to free him and the outcome of her actions.
In the film, Divya Khosla Kumar and Harshvardhan Rane play the key parts, while Anil Kapoor gives a remarkable performance.
Savi, the story
After her husband Nakul (Harshvardhan Rane) is arrested for murder, Savi Sachdev (Divya Khosla Kumar), a happy housewife in the UK with her kid, is subjected to a dramatic upheaval. Because there is so much evidence against Nakul, he is declared guilty. Savi, having exhausted all legal options, makes the decision to free him from prison and leave the nation with her family.
The Bollywood film “Savi” released in 2024, directed by Abhinay Deo, is a remake of the 2008 French thriller “Anything for Her,” which was adapted in Hollywood as “The Next Three Days,” starring Russell Crowe. “Savi” flips gender roles and has Divya Khosla Kumar as the lead character, whereas the original tale followed a husband’s audacious plan to free his unfairly convicted wife.
Savi is sure that her husband Nakul, played by Harshvardhan Rane, is incapable of killing anyone.
When Savi’s family is in danger, she mysteriously transforms into a goddess, but Divya Khosla Kumar is unable to make Savi into anything more than the clichéd Indian wife.
Savi, who is inspired by Anil Kapoor’s portrayal of author and ex-convict Joydeep Paul, to get out of high-security prisons, approaches Paul for assistance.
What didn’t work for the movie Savi?
The actual attempt at escaping from prison is much less exciting than expected, with hardly any excitement in the air. Even Savi’s spouse, Nakul, remarks (in a sequence that is unintentionally humorous) that it is a bad idea to flee from the UK police. The film “Savi” ends on an emotional and triumphant note, but not before a few suspenseful and nerve-wracking moments. However, the climax feels a bit rushed because Savi and Nakul’s personalities don’t grow in any meaningful ways.
This is clearly not going to go well from the moment the audience sees Divya in the first scene.
Is it among those films that you simply must see? No!
Bollywood hasn’t done much with the jailbreak genre, but Hollywood has done a great job with it, creating iconic films like “The Shawshank Redemption,” “Escape from Alcatraz,” and “Midnight Express.” ‘Savi’ has a tremendous chance to advance this genre, but it doesn’t quite live up to expectations. The real jailbreak scenario lacks the anticipated adrenaline thrill and is more “tricky” than “daring.” The thriller has just the perfect amount of humour thanks to Anil Kapoor’s clever dialogue. Even while “Savi” tries hard to give something fresh in this genre, it eventually falls short.
